It is important to be persistent when starting a forum. Patience is important also. This project will take time, do not expect results immediately. A forum gains traffic the longer it is running. Traffic takes time to build, so your online forum will need time. Your chances of success are better the longer your forum is online.nnThe next tip is to pick something you are interested in. You should not start a forum on anything you are not interested in. The more interested you are in the subject, the more content you will be able to produce. If you find what you are writing is interesting you will spend more time on your forum therefore adding more content to it.nnTry to find some family and friends that who shares your interest. If you have a few people writing a couple times a day in your forum your content will slowly but surely grow. The more content you get in your forum the more people will start to check it out. You will need a group of dedicated users to help your forum grow.nnAfter you have established a small community of active users, it is time to try to expand. You can do this by asking friends to have their friends and relatives check out your forum. You do not want to start spamming your URL on forums and blogs just yet. You will want to have about 40 or 50 members before the advertising starts. If you advertise too soon you your site will be over run by people.nnWhen new people come to your forum, you will want them to see a tightly knit community of friends. The new comers will probably come back and bring new people with them if they see people getting along and sharing information. When you have finally built a strong community of supporters you can now start sharing your URL. Post your URL on blogs and websites and even other forums to pick up extra members.nnDo not get over whelmed when you start out. You do not want to post to many threads talking. Users can tell if you are just talking to your self. Do not have a lot of forums with no one on them. If there are no member in your forums the people looking into them will just assume your site is not very active. Having just a small community one a couple of forums is the best way to go about it.nnForum starting is hard work and takes time but it will usually pay off. Just remember you are doing this to have fun not to become a millionaire. Your users will want a fun, friendly place to have discussions. So make sure that your goal is to give your users what they want.
