The Top 8 NCAA Football Teams Entering 2009

8. SEC’s – Ole Miss. The rebels are a team with a real chance of moving up in the voters eyes throughout the season because of 2 reasons. 1. They play in the SEC and 2. They have a chance to take on Florida in the SEC Championship game. Jevon Snead “The Tebow Slayer” has proven he can beat Florida and wants a chance to prove they are the best in the nation. Starting the season at # 8 with no real threats to losing until week 5 against Alabama and week 10/11 against Tennessee and LSU, respectively, they are highly favored to win the SEC West and meet the Gators in Atlanta. More likely to play in the BCS Sugar Bowlagainst a BigEast team.nn7. Virginia Tech. A bit under the radar this year after a letdown in 2008, as the team lost four games. However, there’s really not much competition in the ACC and the Hokies should start out at number seven for that reason. A tough schedule may force them to sink in the rankings.nn6. Ohio State Buckeyes. This is a team that could definitely compete for the national title if things fall the right way. They have a pretty tough schedule, but some easy match-ups to go with them and Terrell Pryor should be a major force this season. I see this team making the Rose Bowl at worst.nn5. SEC’s – Alabama. Alabama’s chances of getting to the Big Game is about 40% as of now. Unfortunately they must play LSU and Ole Miss as well as a surging Tennessee team without HB Coffee andstandout OT Andre Smith ( see previous SEC championship game for his importance). They probably will finish 10-2 but a loss to Ole Miss knocks them out of the BCS bowls and into the Capital One Bowl against a Big Ten Team like Ohio State.nn4. Pac10’s – USC. Big favorites to punch their ticket early to the BCS title game, pending no unexpected surprise losses to Stanford or Oregon State. Their toughest game will be against Ohio State early in the season. Their issue will be adapting a young offense to the pressure of prime time and running up the score board. There is no reason they should play in any other bowl game outside of the BCS championship unless they cant win the voters over from the Big 12. In that case they will fall to the Rose Bowl against the Big 10 winner which will probably be Ohio State, De Ja Vue anyone?nn3. Oklahoma. The battle between the Sooners and the Longhorns will be fierce this year, and either team could come out on top when all is said and done. Some great receivers, Bradford at QB, and maturity should make the Sooners a top force all season. While their schedule is a bit demanding, the hardest game (and only one they should be favored to lose) is the one against Texas in the sixth week of the season. I see the winner of this game in the title game.nn2. Texas. The Longhorns are simply one of the best out there, and Colt McCoy should have a huge season, as he’s eyeing a Heisman. There aren’t many better defenses out there and Texas remains a favorite to make the title game.nn1. Florida. As long as Tim Tebow is on the team, there’s no reason to discount this team’s ability. Almost all of the entire team last season (besides Harvin and Nelson) is back for another season, and Florida has the experience and the talent to go all away. The Gators are the favorites entering the season.
