Taoist Meditation is a kind of wisdom obtained from observing the world around us. The objective of this meditation practice is to cultivate a healthy mind and body. It is a spiritual meditation that with practice results in physical, mental and spiritual harmony. By releasing thoughts of the past and the future allows the practitioner to remain in the present, more focused and alive in the moment. Taoist Meditation involves releasing ourselves of our concerns, judgments and perspectives so as we will be open to the abundance of energy and peace which surrounds us.nnOne of the most well known Taoist Meditations is called The Inner Smile. Taoists believed that a constant inner smile leads a person to good health, happiness and longevity. To live your life with an inner smile is to live your life in harmony.nnTo practice the Inner Smile Meditation, instructions are as follows.nn1. Sit in a comfortable position, in a chair or cross legged on the floor. Ensure that your spine is straight. Close your eyes.n2. Take 3 deep inhalations and exhalations to relax and then focus on your breathing continuing to take long deep inhalations and exhalations.n3. When feeling a little relaxed, bring your focus to inside your head. Try to focus on the very centre of your brain.n4. Visualise yourself looking out from this centre at your face; it being like a mask you are wearing.n5. Now focus on your eyeballs, eyelids, muscles around the eyes, noticed how relaxed they are.n6. Next focus on your nostrils, feel the warm air passing through your nose as you breathe, feel the gentle movement of your nasal hair.n7. Next focus on your mouth and lips. Your tongue should be gently pressing on the back of your top teeth, teeth are slightly apart. Notice how relaxed your mouth is.n8. Next focus on your chin and jaw, feel the muscles and skin, notice how relaxed they are.n9. Next return your focus to your lips again, move them to form a slight smile and notice the change in energy your feel and a distinctive warm sense of well being. This is the inner smile.n10. Now focus again on your eyes, move the corner of your eyes slightly upward until you feel the warm sense of the inner smile again. A feeling of well being.n11. You can complete you Inner Smile Meditation here or continue to allow the radiant flow of the inner smile to ********* all of your body’s internal organs. Such as your heart, digestive organs, liver, kidneys, bowels, glands, nervous system, bones and even the circulating blood. Just focus on each ***** individually continuing to smile with your mouth and eyes.’nnThe Inner Smile Meditation can be practiced in your daily life when you may be feeling stressed or tired. Just bring your attention to your mouth and smile slightly, lifting the corners of your lips. You will notice a profound change in the way you are feeling. nnThis is a very profound meditation to practice. It has strong healing potential for the entire body and mind. Having an inner smile releases negative energies in each of the organs and allows positive healing energies to enter. nnLike all disciplines, Taoist Meditation requires daily practice for you to benefit and be rewarded. Start meditating for a minimum of 20 minutes initially then adjust your session to your individual needs.
