Not all fabrics are created equal. Fabrics like merino wool absorb 35% of their weight in moisture. Cotton comes in a close second but doesn’t provide the exceptional soft and non-allergen qualities that merino wool offers. Merino wool doesn’t come without its drawbacks. The drawback is the price. Merino wool is pretty expensive so many people choose high grade natural cotton materials over merino wool. nnWhat kind of zipper do you want? There are many different types and styles to choose from. Here are just a few: the diagonal zipper, the front zipper, the side zipper, and they even make one that when it opens up it is in the shape of a “u”. The diagonal zipper is nice because when it is fully open your baby sleeping bag opens up flat. Some manufactures offer zipper locks and this prevents your child from unzipping themselves out of the bag during the night. Two way zippers are very nice to have since you can zip it from the bottom or the top. I am going to wait till my baby is three months old before I put him in a sleep sack even though manufactures make baby sleeping bags for newborns. That is just my personal preference.nnShould I get one with sleeves or without sleeves? This is a very good question and their are good arguments for both sides. Sleeveless is nice because your baby is said to get better air circulation around his little body during the night, thus reducing the chance of overheating and waking up sweaty. On the other hand if it is cold it may be nice to have that extra warmth that the sleeves on the sleep bag provide.nnIn summary, the baby sleep sack has many good things going for it. It helps keep your baby warm all throughout the night, hopefully keeping him asleep and helping you get a good nights sleep.
