Self-Employed?:Need health Care?

A growing concern of many online business owners is the need for private health insurance. With work at home businesses on the rise stats tell us that over 40 million Americans have no health care plans at all, with many of these being the self-employed. You don’t have to fall into that category, there are many health care plans tailored for the work at home business. Decide what kind of plan best suits you then explore your options.nnThe first thing that you need to be aware of is the fact that you can purchase health insurance for yourself; it does not need to necessarily come from a company, although a company will be able to get it for you much more cheaply than you would be able to pick it up on your own. Similarly, though, if you are contemplating leaving your company for self-employment, be aware of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, also known as COBRA, which forces any company with more than 20 employees to offer you insurance for a term of up to 18 months after your departure, though this will be at a heightened rate. Though this is more expensive than what you were paying before, it will still be less pricey than getting it on your own.nnHealth insurance companies offer a wide range of coverage options, two of these are short and long term. Short term policies are usually for a period of weeks or months. Long term policies are generally set up for a year or more.As we spoke earlier the less people on a policy the more it normally cost, the same is true for the length of the policy. Some reasons for opting for the short term are, a new job waiting in the wings or perhaps government policies are soon forthcoming.nnThe thing to remember about health insurance is that it will almost never be cheap if you are not getting it from an employer and that the rates will go up, significantly up, when a pre-existing condition comes into play. With a pre-existing condition, there is now more of a chance that there is coverage out there, but be prepared to search and to make sure that you are going to be able to pay the rates that they will demand.nnWhen you are searching for insurance that will cover you, always beware of scams and frauds. Look into personal testimonials, and always figure out what kind of reputation the company has online. A few complaints are normal, but too many and you will want a new carrier.nnIt’s not enough just to make a decision so you can move forward, these are choices you are going to have to live with. Do some serious research online, look in the phone book, talk to friends and family. It sounds like a daunting task just remember, you make choices and do research everyday often without even being aware of it.
