Huawei’s new devices leak, but big questions remain

Huawei has a big event on Thursday, Sept. 19, but thanks to a major leak, we probably know what the company is launching.  According to Android Headlines, the company will show several flavors of its new flagship phone, the Huawei Mate 30. A new smartwatch and a fitness tracker will make an appearance, too, as well as HarmonyOS-based TV and a tablet.  Specifications for these devices have, for the most part, been revealed (more on that below), as have the official-looking images (check them out here). So what's left to know? Actually, quite a lot.  For one, we don't know what flavor of Android the Mate 30 smartphone and its siblings — by far the most important devices in this bunch — will be running. We also don't know whether Google's services and apps, such as Google Play, Maps, Gmail etc. will be available on the phone out of the box. According to Google's recent comments, probably not, and if that is so, the next question is whether there will be some easy way for users to install them or if it will require some kind of hack.  Read more...
