This isn’t as hard as it may seem, read on for a very simple but effective method to accomplish the above while also helping your fellow creative friends and making your community prosperous.nnThe background data that you need to pull off this project is the fact that whenever artists go into an area and create, the area stops its dwindling spiral and goes uphill. For examples, many an area in Los Angeles has gone downhill, buildings vacated and boarded up but when artists go into the area, the buildings get bought, repaired and the commerce of the area flourishes. One such place is the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District. It started as a very bad area to be in, the area was in complete ruins and has only been in existence for ten years – it is now famous, beautiful, safe, well-known and it prospers.nnWith the recession going on, you may have noticed that there are empty buildings in your area. The buildings may be office buildings, car lots and shops in ***** malls. The best use for the empty spaces is for creative endeavors, don’t you agree? Can you imagine artists creating in every single empty building space?nnThe project that follows has been tried and found to work. It’s practically free to start. This project will help you succeed in your artistic endeavors, create success for your fellow artists and help your local community flourish, too.nnThis is what to do:nn1. Locate creative people in your own area – artists, poets, craftsmen, musicians, actors, etc. These people will help you with the project.nnYou can find other artists many ways – free classified ads on craigslist.com or kijiji.com will work. Search the internet for other free classified ad sites. Put your zip code in the ad, so it stays in your area.nnCreate flyers to deliver door to door in your local area.nnPut the flyers in the local businesses.nnAsk friends and neighbors if they know any creative folks. You can even knock on doors to find people that are talented.nn2. After you have figured out whom you will work with, you need to make a presentation pack. It’s not a fancy pack.nnA local office store will have the supplies you need – white glossy paper (about $10), clear plastic sheet covers (100 for about $11) and a presentation binder ($2-$5).nnFor every creative person, create a presentation sheet that has a picture of the artist and his/her artworks, a brief bio, comments and contact info. Put it together in your presentation pack.nn3. Next locate vacant buildings in your neighborhood and find someone to be the salesperson. The artists will create in the empty building and the salesperson will be selling the artworks.nnYou are going to pay the salesperson a percentage of sales, with bonuses for selling over a certain amount per week or per month. To find the sales person, you can ask friends, family, neighbors – someone in need of work will pop up. You assign the salesperson to get a business license from the city and a tax license from the state. Sometimes these licenses are free; sometimes they require a fee, depending on where you are.nnOnce you find a space to use, get the realtor or owners contact information along with the address of the building.nn4. Contact the person and ask for an appointment to do a presentation. If pressed about what the presentation is for, just mention that you are with a group of artists that want to help to get the building leased. That will get you into the door.nn5. Spotlight your presentation on the profits to the proprietor/real estate agent. Use these guidelines:nnThe way to get the building leased fast is to get artists into the area to create there because each time that artists go into an area, the commerce picks up, buildings get leased or sold and the community flourishes. It has been proven to work time and again. nnYou can bring up the Los Angeles Arts District as an example of a place where artists succeeded and raised the general standards of the area.nnLet the Realtor/owner see the presentation pack, to become familiar with the artists involved.nn6. If the owner/agent requires insurance in order to let artists work in the area, contact a local alternative school or charity and have them join up with you. They will have the appropriate insurance.nn7. Make signs and post them.nnColorful signs should read “Artists at Work” with arrows pointing in the direction, or “Artists Ahead.” Or any other thing you can think of. You can make the signs on wood, poster board or A-frames. Put those signs on both sides of the street, starting at 50 yards ahead of the location and getting closer. Balloons tied to the signs will get attention. Attach the wood or poster board signs to sign posts with bungee cords.nn8. Create art.nnIn the space that you procure, bring completed artworks for the salesperson to sell, then set up a space to create. The artists only need to be concerned with creating, the salesperson with selling. One art form helps to inspire another one, so there will be no lack of inspiration and a beautiful energy will be created that will get attention and sales.nn9. Do not give up!nnYou will not have instant success within the first day and the first hour. However if you persist, you will get attention and then sales. Don’t give up! It is persistence that pays off. nn10. Do whatever you can think of to bring attention to your area and to your group of artists.nnCreate flyers and place in the local stores.nnCreate invitations and send to local galleries, gift shops, newspapers, radio stations, news stations, etc.nnWrite a press release and distribute it. http://help-2-succeed,com/blog/index/php/press-release-tips-aamp-generator tells you how to write a press release. http://help-2-succeed.com/blog/index/php/press-release-distribution-services tells you how to get the press release distributed.nnAnnounce that on social media sites that you and a bunch of creative people are making art. Use sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Be sure to include when and where. Write additional posts about individual artworks, what inspires you, etc.nnBe sure to invite creative individuals that stop by to join you.nnYou will see the area around you start to come uphill and even begin to flourish, but you must continue to create and persist with your project. Do whatever you can to attract attention – the more attention, the more success.nnIt’s not a problem if the Realtor/owner leases the space you are in. You can help the new owner generate more business by creating in that space, so have the former owner tell them how good you’ve been for the community.nnKeep this a free project, please pass it around. Doing so will help other artists and other communities to prosper.
