Working in a Call Center Industry

The industry of call center in the Philippines has really grown over the last few years. This is because all of the outsourcing services needed by off shore businesses are provided in the Philippines. A contributory factor to this is the availability of a competent workforce with a relatively lower cost of labour services when compared with those of onshore operations. The industry is well developed and is leading in the outsourcing industry globally. Ever since the industry went into full operation in 1999, there has never been a setback in its developmental strides. A good number of businesses based in India moved their branches to the Philippines when the vast potential in the country's geographical location was realised.
Are you prepared to work in a call center?
Call centers also known as contact centers are wonderful places to work in because one does not require any particular degree to get a job. According to surveys, many Filipinos hold college degrees. You may have studied nursing or mass media and that would not matter. All that you require are the necessary communication skills and skills in customer service support. A good thing about being hired into this sort of career is the pay package. The industry offers a highly competitive rate for salaries even for entry level applicants. For this reason many Filipinos are applying in many BPO companies offering offshore call center services. It is not all games and fun however. There are lots of challenges also that go with the job. One must encounter these challenges when involved in a career as a call center agent. What are these challenges?
Challenges of working in call center in the Philippines
There are lots of challenges in working in a call center environment. Basically, Filipinos love to wake up very early in the morning to go to work as opposed to people in places like Hong Kong who have active night life and individuals sleep till afternoon time. This, of course has to change because the call center industry demands that one work at night hours. This is because the differences in time zone between the two countries (the Philippines and the US). The Philippines are almost at the extreme of the globe from the United States where many of the customer calls are likely to emanate from. The time difference is large. Night time in the Philippines is Day time in the United States. Conversely, day time in the United States in Night time in the United States is Day time in the Philippines.
Before choosing to go into the call center industry work, one should be aware of some dangers associated with working during night hours. Worthy of note is the fact that the human body has a body clock formally referred to as natural circadian rhythm. The biological clock of the body was established through evolution over billions of years. Reversing this may have negative effects on some individuals with weak constitutions that cannot adapt well enough. Persons with severe respiratory challenges will further worsen their health condition. Persons with chronic heart diseases should not consider choosing such a career. Apart from these aforementioned, working in a call center Philippines can be comfortable and fun if one can adapt quickly enough.
