Underwater dining in Maldives: Eat your food amidst a lurking shark

By: Manya Singh

Do you know why we keep coaxing you to make that Maldives trip? Itís just not coz of the beaches or the water sports or that poetic landscape! It is not merely for the fabulous culture or the amazing sightseeing attractions! Yes, we know that you hanker after all that finger-licking seafood. But again, that is not the best reason why we push you so much to buy our Maldives holiday packages.

The chief reason why we tell everybody (who would listen to us) to head to this island is to enjoy this unfathomably thrilling experience of underwater dining. No, we are neither joking nor making an exaggerated claim!

The Ithaa Undersea Restaurant is a place where you can have your dinner below the belly of the ocean. There is no trick or red herring involved in the claim or in the statement. You can check the photographs if you still suspect us.

Ithaa is an underwater restaurant which rests around 16 feet below the surface of the sea. It is made almost entirely of glass through which you will be able to gaze at the underwater creatures once you settle down in your table. The restaurant is not very huge and has only a few tables. So, you need to make sure that a table is available for you. Advance booking is mandatory since everybody wants to have a go at this place.
The food will be the usual, though you can expect a lot of sea stuff on the menu. The services are great, friendly and satisfying. However, you will hardly take notice of the staffs since you will be in a numbed state, almost paralyzed with the amazing scene in front of you and over you.

You get to enjoy a 180-degree view of the sea in this restaurant. The concept is marvelous and the prices, though steep, are justifiable. You can also have lunch if you want to keep your expenses lower. The rates for lunch begin at $120 while they take off from $250 for dinner.

The underwater restaurant by Anantara Kihavah Villas is another option you can explore. So, if you are unable to find an available booking at Ithaa, this will be your next best alternative. Though the view is great at this place too, here the design does not allow you to enjoy an unrestricted 180-degree view.
So, on that count, it loses out to Ithaa. However, it is still going to give you that underwater dining experience which can do your CV a whole lot of good.

For details about the exact location of these places, just pick up any Maldives tourism guide and you will be home. Chow!
