The Different Ways to Prevent Abortion

By: James Pen

Everybody knows the meaning of abortion. According to the dictionary meaning, abortion is the termination of unwanted pregnancy. Statistics show that abortion rates are increasing day by day not only due to unprotected sexual intercourse but also because of the lack of knowledge among people about the various ways to prevent pregnancies. There are various ways which can lead to decrease in the rate of abortions.
Educating the people
In most of the developing countries, especially among people with low socio-economic status, a major source of entertainment perhaps is having sexual intercourse. People are unaware about the various methods of contraception, which leads to unwanted pregnancies and finally abortions. This has led to an increase in the mortality rate post abortions, especially in the developing parts of the world. It is thus of utmost importance that people should be educated about what contraception is and the methods that can be used.
Increasing the availability of contraceptives
Whatever may be the mode of contraception, it should be made easily available to the people. Also apart from the easy access to these means, it should also be kept in mind that these contraceptives are economical to the people so that they can be purchased and used easily. For this purpose only, many countries have made these birth control measures free in various government hospitals.
Developing new birth control measures
The easiest and safest way to prevent unwanted pregnancy and hence abortion is to use birth control measures.Today, the temporary birth control measures which are being used are not 100 percent successful. The only foolproof method of controlling unwanted pregnancy is to have permanent birth control measures. However, one of the biggest disadvantages of using permanent contraceptive methods is that they lead to sterilization. Hence it is very important to come up with temporary birth control measures which are more reliable.
Sex is not a crime- be open about it
Various studies have revealed that the incidence of unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions is increasing day by day, especially in teenagers. One possible cause for this is the lack of knowledge among children. So sex education should be made legal and should be inculcated in the curriculum right from the beginning. As rightly said, sex is not a crime and one should be open about it.
The endeavor today of countries should be to curb down on the number of abortions and make sure abortion is carried out only when necessary.
