The Advantages and Disadvantages of Email Marketing

By: John Rebecca

In order for your business to grow you will need to advertise it properly if you want to build a large customer base. One advertising technique that is quite popular and useful is that of email marketing. Assuming you have a list of a lot of email addresses you are probably wondering how you can use your contact list to generate revenue. In order to use your email contact list to generate revenue for your company you need to learn how to construct and send marketing emails advertising the product and services of your company. However, before you start sending marketing emails to all your contact you should first learn about the advantages and disadvantages of email marketing.

The advantages to email marketing are simple. You need to understand that every email address in your contact list belongs to a person. In other words, each email address that you send a marketing email to is a potential client. So by that reasoning you can easily build a large customer base just from collecting email addresses and sending marketing emails to each address. Digital marketing is a great way to advertise your products and services.

Another advantage to email marketing is the fact that you can keep track of how much money you earn from email marketing. In other words, if you send the exact same email to everyone on your contact list and you include the same website address in each email you can determine how effective your email marketing techniques are by keeping track of how many visitors visit the URL of your website that was in the email you sent. In order to effectively keep track of how many people visit the link within your website that is designed for email marketing you need to make sure that the link cannot be visited any other way. In other words, you need to make sure that the link that you send in the emails can only be visited through the emails.

The advantages of email marketing outweigh the disadvantages but it is a good idea for you to be aware of the disadvantages of email marketing as well. The main disadvantage to email marketing is that people are de-sensitized to email marketing. In other words, the average person probably receives around 10 marketing emails on a daily basis. If you receive a lot of marketing emails you probably will stop to read them because you assume they have nothing to offer you. So in order for your email marketing techniques to work you need to put yourself into the position of the person who is reading the email - you need to make your marketing email stand out from the rest.

It can be difficult to design a marketing email that is unique but if you manage to construct a good marketing email a lot of people will believe what you are offering and visit your website. Additionally, another disadvantage to email marketing is that you could easily be flagged as spam if you send too many emails on a daily basis.
