Stowe VT Bed and Breakfast

By: Mel Joelle

When it comes to classic skiing destinations, no town on the east coast can beat Stowe, Vermont. However, don’t get the wrong idea by the word “classy.” Unlike many other ski towns, Stowe is affordable. Not only that, but you’re going to find a lot to do even when it’s not ski season. If you’re looking for the best value in Stowe as far as accommodations are concerned, stay at a bed and breakfast.

The biggest difference between bed and breakfast hotels in Stowe and bed and breakfast hotels in other ski towns is that the Bed and Breakfast Hotels in Stowe are classy without being pretentious. For instance, when you walk into the lobby, you’re not going to find a lot of gaudy furniture. What you’re going to find is a couch that would fit in your living room, a simple stone fireplace and perhaps a few paintings of the countryside. It’s an inviting scene – one that lets you know your room is going to offer just as much comfort.

As far as your room goes, you will likely find a fireplace, a Jacuzzi, free WiFi, a king-sized bed, a flat-screen TV that is DVD and iPod-accessible, bathrobes and a video library. As crazy as it sounds, and despite everything there is to do in Stowe, some visitors are so comfortable that they rarely leave their rooms. They spend the day with their loved one watching movies, spending time in the Jacuzzi and relaxing with a bottle of wine. In some cases, there is also a balcony to enjoy. In-room massages are also a possibility.

If you’re the type of person who needs to get out, Stowe has a lot to offer. If it’s wintertime, your best option will be downhill or cross-country skiing. Stowe is known for offering the best skiing in the state. Other popular winter activities include snowmobiling, visiting local museums, taking a trip to the library and dining at one of the more than 40 restaurants in town, none of which are a chain restaurant. If it’s summertime, you will have even more options. If you like to stay dry, you can go antique shopping, visit art galleries, play golf, go horseback riding, take a hot air balloon ride, visit a state or national park, hike a nature trail or go on a winery tour. If you don’t mind getting wet, you can go canoeing, fishing, sailing or swimming. There are several lakes and rivers in the area.

As far as hotel amenities go, most bed and breakfast hotels in Stowe offer similar features. You should expect a complimentary breakfast that stands well above any other hotel breakfast you have ever eaten, afternoon coffee and tea, evening appetizers, complimentary snacks, a 24-hour front desk and a laundry facility. In most cases, children and pets are not allowed and smoking is only allowed outdoors. The latter is a good way to accommodate everyone.
