Starting A Bar: The Basics That You Should Never Get Wrong

By: theodot

Starting a bar can be a very lucrative opportunity if you get it right. These days, most people spend a huge chunk of their money having fun in such facilities, and if you are careful enough you could be on the receiving end of this. However, there has to be some work done before you can get to that point. There are a few issues you will need to sort out so that you can have a better idea of how to run the bar and how to design it. Doing this will make it easier for you to make as much as you can out of it.

First things first: the broad picture

You will first need to have a broad picture of what the bar is supposed to be about. What do people come to bars to do? One would say that it's to drink but if you think about it closely this is not the case. If people wanted to drink they could do it from home.

People visit such premises primarily to socialize with each other, and sometimes to enjoy the ambience. This means that when you are designing one, you need to keep this in mind. You should not focus on the alcohol or the food, but on the experience that people are going to get at the bar. Remember, there are some that offer average drinks, but which people would pay a lot to party in.

The issue of themes

You will therefore need to first think of the theme that the bar will have way before you can start investing in it. Ideally, it should have a theme that many people will find refreshing. Remember, chances are that your target population have other options in terms of which bars to go to. You therefore need to make sure that yours stands out as much as possible. You will need to choose the right theme for this.

An important issue you need to keep in mind when choosing a theme is exclusivity. No one wants to be associated with something cheap. You therefore have to come up with a design that will reek of this. It could have a fun theme, or an exotic one, but the basic factor is that it should look and feel exclusive.

The things that matter in determining the feel of a bar

The things that matter in determining if the bar feels exclusive are obvious. These include the type of lighting you choose, the interior décor of the facility and most importantly the furniture. If you are going to have any furniture in the bar, you have to insist that it be both functional and aesthetic. People should feel comfortable sitting on it, but it should also look good as well. This might seem like a hard combination to get, but it's actually very easy. You only need to identify quality stores you can shop from.

In summary, starting a bar is not about simply putting some beer in a space and asking people to come over. For success, you need to make it a pleasant experience for them.
