Roller skating as a versatile pastime

Roller skating is the art of travelling on smooth terrain wearing roller skates. It is a sport as well as being a recreational pastime, and also a mode of transportation. In fact, one celebrity who is famous for rehabilitating the behaviour of dogs, Cesar Millan, has made roller skating a popular method of travelling with his pack of dogs!

There are two basic types of roller skate, quad roller skates and inline skates or blades. A quad skate is a four wheeled turning skate which makes turning a lot easier and gives greater manoeuvrability. Inline skates usually have 3, 4 or 5 wheels arranged in a single line.

The first recorded use of roller skates was in 1743 and was in a London stage performance. The popularity of roller skating has continued through the centuries up till the present day when it is as popular as ever. There are many different types of skating but roller skating is still the most popular and many people enjoy roller skating as a hobby.

When choosing which skates to buy it depends largely on the type of activity you will undertake.
