Party Planning Perfection

By: Sarah Carlye

Everyone who plans a party wants everything to go perfect. It doesn’t matter if it is a birthday party, cooperate retirement party, bachelor party, or bachelorette party, hosts and hostesses want everything to go smoothly. To make sure the party goes perfect as possible, it is important to plan ahead so the guest of honor leaves his or her party happy with how everything went.

Talk to the person that the party is for. Find out what kind of party they would like and where. Have a few themes and venues picked out to make the best choice possible. Get a guest list so that you know how many guests will need to be accommodated. Figure out a budget. Often more than one person can host and pay for a party so the budget can be increased. If having the party is at someone’s home there will need to be some extra people helping out with decorations, cleaning before and after the party, serving food and drinks, etc.

Once the actual planning begins, look around for the best deals on decorations, food, and a venue if not having the party in someone’s home. Use a party planning service for both large and small parties to make sure that all the details are taken care of. Party planning services may charge a fee or be complimentary. They can provide discounts and perks at various venues. If at a venue, find out costs of anything guests will pay for on their own (like drinks) and if decorations are allowed.

Invitations to parties can be conveniently sent by email. A printable email invitation works well and can be printed out by the host to be mailed to any guests that don’t have regular Internet access. Calling about a week before the party to get a final head count is a good idea. Even those who may have accepted the invitation 3-4 weeks prior, may have something come up.

When you are hosting the party, don’t plan other activities or tasks to be done before the party. There will almost always be something that comes up the day of the party. Plan it in to assure the party will start on time and everything is ready. When there are decorations make sure there is plenty of time to finish putting them up before the guest/s of honor arrive.

When all is said and done, people remember the thoughtfulness of the host and the fun they had at a party, not the perfectly decorated room. Make sure the guest of honor, the guests, and even the hosts have fun. Planning ahead will assure that the party goes as perfectly as possible.
