Nokia And Windows Phone

By: Mel Joelle

Nokia has for years dominated the cell-phone market because of the high quality mobile phone devices the company introduces to the market every year. However, many other companies have introduced good smart phones that have gradually destabilized Nokia’s dominance of the cell phone market. Many cell phone users nowadays prefer buying smart phones that run on operating systems like Android and Windows phone as opposed to ones that run on a Symbian platform like Nokia.

To suit the needs of their customers, Nokia decided to partner with Microsoft and came up with Nokia Phones that run on a Windows phone platform. This is a move that has been predicted for long especially since the Nokia CEO, Stephen Elop is a former Microsoft executive. Both companies have worked on this for a while now and it is rumored that the first Nokia Windows Phone will be available in the market in the beginning of the year 2012.

Nokia has for long produced very good phones and therefore consumers expect quite a lot from a Nokia phone that runs on a Windows phone platform. There are many excellent features that will come with the first Nokia Windows Phone.

In regards to the external specs of the phone, consumers will have the pleasure of choosing from the wide array of colors that the phone will be available in. Its shape is expected to resemble the Nokia N8 and the C7.

Nokia Windows Phone will also have different applications as compared to other Nokia Phones. Ovi Maps, for example, is expected to be integrated into Microsoft services and applications that involve maps. The Nokia Ovi Store is also expected to be integrated with Microsoft Marketplace and this will provide a platform where consumers can access applications that are both compatible with Nokia and Microsoft. In this regards, the Nokia Windows Phones are expected to also be compatible with Microsoft products like Xbox 360 and personal computers that run on Windows operating system.

In order to regain their dominance in the cell phone market, Nokia plans to introduce the Nokia Windows phone at a very competitive price. In fact, Elop, Nokia’s CEO, has predicted that the price on the phone will drastically drop to Symbian phone price range within the subsequent months after being released into the market.

Speculation over the specs of a new product is good for business. No company wants to make the features of an anticipated product public to prevent competitors from making a product to counter it. That may be the reason why Nokia is still withholding the particular specs of the Nokia Windows Phone. Apart from the few that have been leaked through the internet on various blogs, Nokia’s CEO announced that the specs will only be made public when the phone is being released.

Finally, the Nokia Windows Phone is expected to run on Windows 7. This is the latest version of Windows operating system that is available for mobile phones and has features that will compete heavily with other mobile phone operating systems.
