New Mexico Boutique Hotel

By: Mel Joelle

If you want to visit New Mexico, your first destination should be Santa Fe. You will find rich history, southwestern art, bargain shopping and a lot of outdoor activities. Many people who visit Santa Fe refer to it as unique and enjoyable. This is especially the case for those who are wise enough to stay in a bed and breakfast hotel. However, the bed and breakfast hotels here are different from most other bed and breakfast hotels in the country. They’re more like a mix between a bed and breakfast and a boutique hotel.

When you stay at a bed and breakfast in Santa Fe, you should expect to find décor that includes local art and hand-furnishings. This immediately gives you a warm, home-like feeling. While it might not be anything like your home, it’s still a welcoming environment. You will also notice a private entrance, a refrigerator, fine linens, a TV and a fireplace molded so well into the room that you almost don’t realize it’s there. The tones are always earthly, which helps put your mind at ease. Another amenity that’s important to many is free WiFi.

Most bed and breakfast hotels in the Santa Fe area have between six and eight bedrooms. The prices for a room are very affordable compared to other bed and breakfast hotels in the U.S. However, not many bed and breakfast hotels around here offer corporate rates. They don’t want large groups because they want to keep the environment quiet and peaceful. However, most of the bed and breakfast hotels in the area do allow children. In most cases, pets are not allowed and smoking is only permitted outside.

When it comes to hotel amenities, you should expect to find free parking, gardens, courtyards, patios, laundry services, dry-cleaning services, a lounge with reading material on local attractions and a full breakfast. In some cases, a full breakfast will mean a buffet with all traditional options as well as dishes like blueberry polenta, pear walnut bread and spinach mushroom frittata. The breakfast service at the bed and breakfast hotels in Santa Fe definitely takes it a step further than the average bed and breakfast. Not only are there more exotic options, but you can usually dine indoors or outside on a patio. Other hotel amenities might include complimentary beverages and afternoon tea.

There are many attractions and activities to choose from in Santa Fe. Many visitors love visiting the local markets. You can walk down the side of a building where locals have hand-sewn blankets in front of them. You can bargain with them or simply talk to them. They’re all friendly. If you enjoy shopping, there are also several antique stores. If you need a rush, you can go whitewater rafting, bicycling, kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, skiing or snowmobiling. Other area attractions and activities include state and national parks, tennis, golf, casinos, hot air ballooning and museums.
