How to Remove a Large Tree

A lot of people like to have trees in their yard. The leaves provide shade from the sun and they are a source of fun for children who can climb the tree or swing from it. Not only that, a tree adds significant value to your property. Having said that, if you ever find yourself in a position where you have to remove a large tree, it can be quite a daunting task.

Having a tree provides numerous benefits to a property. However, if the tree is starting to rot or if you are having some construction done in an area, you might have to remove a tree.

If you have a lot of room and there is no danger of the tree hitting anything, you can drop the tree with a chainsaw. Make sure that you cut it properly and that you have provided a clear path for the tree to fall and another for you to run, if necessary. On the trunk of the tree, cut a wedge in the side you want it to fall towards. Make a final cut on the opposite side, and it should fall cleanly. If you don't have prior experience using a chainsaw, don't attempt to do this without help as you could end up causing major damage.

Having to cut down a tree near power lines can be a problem. If the tree is near an electricity line, contact your local power company. Tell them who you are, where you are calling from and why you need the tree removed. The company should send someone, at a time appropriate for you, to come out and cut down the tree free of charge. It is much cheaper for the company to remove the tree for you than to repair any damage the tree might cause to the wires.

Certain specimen trees take a long time to grow and there a lot of people who want a large tree planted in their property. If you have such a tree, contact your local nursery to see if they would be interested in digging up the tree for free. In case the tree is dug up, you will have to find ways to fill in the hole and, if necessary, reseed. Conversely, you could find out if there are any businesses in your area which sell firewood. You can contact them to check if they would be interested in removing your tree to use for their business.

At times, the tree you want to remove can be in a complicated location. It could be around buildings or above sewer lines, in which case it would be better to hire the services of a professional tree company. Remember to ensure that the company you hire has a good reputation and that the price they quote is affordable.

If there are objects near the tree which could get damaged during the removal process, you might want to get them insured. A falling tree can destroy property and even kill people. Make sure that you do it properly, and consider hiring a professional if necessary.
