How to Improve Health with Walking

Walking is undoubtedly the easiest and most beneficial forms of exercise to start off a fitness program. First, it gets you up and moving and in time, will allow you to maintain your weight, improve your health, and just feel good.

Before starting any fitness program, you should always check with your doctor to make sure that the plan is right for you. Including walking in your fitness plan is an easy way to start. If you lead a very sedentary lifestyle, you will want to start off slow. The length of you walk and the intensity of your stride can slowly increase as you begin to gain stamina.

It’s important to not overdo it when you first start walking. Make sure to monitor your heart rate and drink plenty of water. As a rule of thumb, you should be able to carry on a conversation without getting too winded while you are walking. If you cannot do this, you should slow your pace down. Your tolerance will increase in time, but don’t rush it.

There are a couple of other things to consider when starting a walking program. You need good walking shoes that are designed for walking. This will help alleviate any unnecessary pain in your feet and calves. Additionally, you have several choices when deciding where to walk. Malls, parks, neighborhoods, anywhere will do. If you prefer to walk indoors, you can use a stationary treadmill in your home or at the gym.
