In living in our homes, the most important and also the most basic concern we have is our safety.

The basic safety devices should be installed in your homes. You can start with smoke detectors in each room, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits. For seniors, shoes or slippers should not have heels. Walking aids should always be there for them. If applicable, you can place guard rails. Rags should not be on their way so they won’t slip as well as cords should be kept from sight so they won’t trip.

Safety measures in bathrooms involve non slip mats and a recognizable differentiation between hot and cold.

Make sure that the kitchen floor is clean, not wet and slippery. Sharp objects should be kept in a safe place. Always check the food’s expiration dates to avoid any minor or major food poisoning.

Most if not all seniors require medication. Always check the expiration dates of these medicines and dispose them properly.
