By: Manya Singh

Manali is a panoramic hill station with some wonderful attractions. It is also a town which has some really picturesque neighbors like Kullu and Shimla (both are in the same state of Himachal Pradesh)! Amongst the top Manali places to visit, the ones which enjoy the highest spotlight are Beas Kund, Rohtang Pass, Solang Valley and Hadimba Temple. But if you have already checked out these attractions and are looking to stretch your legs a bit, then you can plan a day trip from the town and visit some nearby places.

Here is a quick glance at some of the tourist places near Manali:

i. Dharamasala: Dharamsala is one of the most pacific little towns in Himachal. It has that fragrance of a leisurely life. It is also a pilgrim destination and boasts of some reputed temples. Its waterfalls also have that capability to do to you what Kate Winslet and Angelina Jolie do to men (including me)!
Distance and time factors: Dharamsala is situated at around 228 km from Manali. It would take you around 5-6 hours to reach the place.

ii. Shimla: Shimla is one of the best hill stations in India and the true star of Himachal. It is also the most popular and the most crowded of the tourist destinations. So, if you are planning a trip during the peak summer time, then make sure to get your rooms booked in advance (so what if it is just a day trip)! Sharing the same state, Shimla is not very far from Manali. Its forests, waterfalls, churches and mansions make it a sinfully attractive destination.
Distance and time factors: Shimla is located at around 280 km away from Manali. So, a car journey of around 8-9 hours would be enough.

iii. Kullu: If you wish to stay somewhere close to Manali, then Kullu will be your idyllic destination. Since it is barely 44 km away, one can reach it in about an hour! In fact, most tourists check Kullu during their Manali trip. It is a close cousin of Manali and has similar geography and attractions. Yet its own distinct persona comes across through its thrilling sports and panorama.
