Call Center in the Philippines

By: James30

The classified ads sections of top newspapers in The Philippines is always flooded with half to full page adverts of companies looking for chat support services, customer service representatives and telemarketing services. Companies send their representatives to almost every job fair in the Philippines in search of competent and qualified call centre representatives. The seat of Philippine's government, The Malacanang has advocated that call centre services is currently the fastest growing industry in the country.
A call centre is a centralized office that is used for receiving and sending large volume of telephone requests on behalf of clients. The Clients include telemarketing companies, banks, IT companies, mail order catalogue houses, freight handling firms, transportation, insurance groups, hotels, computer products help desk, and financial services. They are the companies that receive the 1-800 calls of customers making inquiry concerning products or services.
The good thing about any call center in Philippines is its relatively cheap cost of personnel services as opposed to the high cost of personnel and inefficiencies of workers in countries like the United States. Companies now outsource this service to other countries like the Philippines and India where there is cheap labor. You can imagine a US citizen putting a call to a 1 - 800 phone number to make enquiries about how to open the carton of his brand new HD TV set. He would not know that the call centre representative responding to his call is speaking to him time zones away from his location.
The Philippines are now enjoying a major consideration in the vision of companies overseas in search of call service representatives. The Philippines has earned this favour as a result of the preponderance of English speakers who are college graduates and have American cultural affinities and English accents. It was stated on a good authority website that "Filipinos are regarded as the best Country in terms of outsourcing outside of North America because their accents is similar to that of American consumers". This is probably as a result of the deeply rooted effects of colonialism.
The call centre service has been given a nick name as the country's recent "sunshine industry". This industry is expected to provide thousands of jobs in the Philippines. Reports from has it that there are still available over a million call centre agent positions waiting to be outsourced abroad, thus indicating that there are lots of potential available in the call center industries of the Philippines. The government has been doing its best to contribute to this development. According to the Malacanang, they will be sponsoring scholarships to those interested in becoming customer care representatives. They will also focus on the school curriculum of elementary and secondary schools. These days, studies have revealed that only a few of the country’s population are fluent in the use of English. That is an area the government need to look into - the decline on the fluency in the use of English of her population which is its major attraction for the call center industry.
