Add value to your home with some wonderful window treatments

By: Cesar Muler

Window treatments can add lots of character and warmth to a home, transforming it into an inviting and intimate space. Without them, rooms would look dull. Therefore, if you want to enhance the beauty of your home, you should buy curtains. Online you can find plenty of models in all the styles and colors you can imagine.

All interior designers agree that it’s very important to allow as much natural light into a home as possible. But however beautiful and inviting a room full of natural light is, you sometimes just have to block this light, either to create more privacy or to prevent excessive heat from coming into the room. Therefore, window treatments are not really an option – they’re a necessity. This is particularly true for people who have homes with large windows. During hot summer days, the light and heat entering a home can make the interior ambient quite uncomfortable, so it’s important to have some sort of filter. Of course, you can always use shutters and rollers to keep the sunlight out of your home, but if you want your windows to look gorgeous at the same time, you must invest in window treatments such as curtains, draperies or valances.

Each type of room needs a special treatment. For the living room, it’s best to install lavish and long curtains which you can close or open any time you want, but for the kitchen or a hallway, curtains may be a little too much. Curtains don’t mix well with kitchens; after all, the kitchen is a cooking space – there’s a lot of humidity here, smoke and all sorts of smells which can easily deteriorate the curtains. A better solution for your kitchen is a valance. Installing a valance will make your kitchen look better without blocking sunlight. You can also use a valance in the hallway to make this home area more appealing and inviting. The idea is that valances can add character to a room, or, if accompanying curtains, they can add more sophistication. Pick a valance in same style, color and fabric as your living-room curtains and the aspect of your room will change in an instant.

When purchasing window treatments it is important to consider your everyday needs. Do you want your curtains to block sunlight or are you rather considering installing them to obtain more privacy? In the first case, you’ll need to pick curtains made out of a denser material which can efficiently block the sunlight. If you just want to keep your neighbors’ curious glances away, a lighter material will be preferred. The aesthetic aspect is also very important. After all, if you’re making this investment, it should at least be a durable one, so you have to make sure that the products you pick match your interior décor and blend well with your furnishings. Good luck shopping for window furnishings!
