30 Minute Meals: Your New Menu

By: David T.

If you are struggling to put healthy meals on the table each night and wonder what you're missing, it might be time that you found some new recipe sources. Preparing quick easy meals can be very simple, and you don't need to stress out over it. If you're not sure how to get started, why not get a little advice from the experts. Learning how to make 30 minute meals is a skill that will come in handy time and time again. One of the reasons that most people don't manage to put healthy meals on the table as often as they would like is timing- when you feel rushed or tired or stressed out, and you don't have the know-how to put something together quickly, you can feel very put-upon to make a meal.

To get yourself started, you might consider a program online that will send you a menu each week. By getting recipes for quick easy meals in your inbox, you don't have to stress out over what to do, and you don't need to worry about looking through cookbooks or finding new recipes. Some of these online programs will even send you a shopping list for the week with all the ingredients you'll need to make your meals. If you have special dietary needs, most websites offering meal plans will take those into account. If you're a vegetarian, for example, you will usually have the option to either receive only vegetarian meals, or you will be sent recipes that can be easily augmented for vegetarians. You might even learn a few new tricks, such as using TVP (textured vegetable protein) instead of ground beef to make family favorites such as tacos. Of course, you want to limit the amount of processed food that you're feeding your family, so look for recipes that feature whole foods, rather than processed ingredients.

Learning to plan ahead is one of the best things that you can do for yourself, as there are some ingredients that just aren't going to go from their natural state to being ready to eat in half an hour or less. Using a pressure cooker or a crock pot is one way to prepare such items. These are also great options for soups and stews- you can throw all your ingredients in after breakfast, and when you get home for dinner, it's ready to go. Of course, cooking quick easy meals is also helped by learning about new foods. Take quinoa, for example- this delicious food is super-nutritious and cooks up in only 15 minutes. Just be sure to rinse it very well, and you've got a great new food to experiment with.
