Words Of Wisdom - The Answer

By: Hans S Laney

When you are in search of wisdom, it is natural to read books, watch videos, try to find gurus to follow, put a lot of focus on learning more to add to your happiness and reduce any suffering. We look everywhere for the answer to questions like the meaning and purpose of our life and how to be happy. This is normal and natural.
But there is some powerful wisdom you should contemplate. And that pearl of wisdom is this: There Is No Answer!
We all want to believe that there is some answer to life. That if we can just figure out what the answer is, then well be great and live happily ever after. So we find an answer, it could be any answer, like grasping and desire and attachment are the cause of suffering in our lives. Then we try to kill grasping and desire within ourselves.
We try to make detachment the answer to everything. But it isnt. It doesnt work that way. Grasping and attachment are just part of an answer. They are not the whole answer. Nothing is the whole answer.
Not understanding this, you can spend months trying to overcome desire and grasping within yourself. You will grasp after not grasping! Then, when you finally figure out that that doesn't work, you will give that up. "I guess that Buddha didn't have the answer after all..." Then you will start looking all around for another answer.
In the same way people on the search for self wisdom make love the answer, or compassion, or knowledge, or holiness the answer. Then they work very hard trying to be holier or more wise or more loving. Only to find after several months or years that it isnt working. Trying to be more of anything isnt the answer!
Here is a useful wisdom secret. All answers are only partial truths. Any answer can not be the whole truth. So if you feel strongly that being more loving is your answer, good! Go to work on that for a while. But just don't expect love to solve everything. It won't! And don't burden love with that expectation!
Understand that any answers you find to living a successful and happy life will only be partial and temporary. What you can do that is powerful is begin to let go of needing an Answer. Get more comfortable not having answers. Live more into the question. Obviously, this is a deep subject, but just this can be a great start.
