Women's Fragrance Trends For 2011

By: Gen Wright

Selling women's fragrances will always be a profitable business. That is because women will always want to look good and smell good. For them, the right scent always adds to their sense of confidence and well-being.

Still, business is business, and if you are in the business of selling women's fragrances, here are a few trends in 2011 that you need to know about.

Which Scents Are Up? Which Scents Are Down?

For many women, the point of wearing fragrance is to feel sexy and attractive. So they will go for scents that are fun, luxurious, enchanting and seductive. Fragrances predicted to make their mark in 2011 are those that have a woody or delicately exotic scent. Fresh and flowery scents will still be in as long as they evoke a sense of adventure and romance.

Traditional oriental scents will still be a favorite, but women will want their oriental fragrances to be richer and spicier. The lush, ultra-feminine oriental scent is on the downtrend in 2011.

Buyers Are Now More Environment-Conscious

Thanks to the widespread campaigns of various environmental groups, consumers today are more environment-conscious than ever. Women buying fragrances are not an exception. They are now more likely to do research on a perfume's manufacturer before they make their purchase to see if the company produces less waste, uses only natural materials for their scents and packaging, among others. They will buy more from companies that show some consciousness of and responsibility to the environment through their products and services.

Perfume Bottle Size Matters

Women want more fun and experimentation with the fragrances they buy. Thus, they are more likely to purchase scents in smaller bottles. Having scents in smaller bottles allows these women to have more choices and to wear whatever scent they fancy for any particular time or day. In addition, scents in smaller bottles are much easier to carry around. So women can put their little bottles in their bag when they go out so they can easily re-apply their scent whenever they feel like it. They will also have fewer problems with packing these small bottles when they have to travel, bearing in mind the airport restrictions still in place.

Building Consumer Trust Is Very Important

Trust is still a big issue among consumers of fragrances. They are more likely to buy fragrances if they are endorsed by celebrities they like and admire. Celebrity-endorsed scents are known to perform a lot better in the market. But beyond celebrity endorsements comes effective customer service. Women want to be guided through their scent shopping and they want the experience to be fun. Greater interaction between the manufacturer of the scent as well as retailers and their customers both online and in-store will remain an important element in the scent's success among consumers.
