Once when Republic of Tx Vice President Mirabeau B. Lamar visited his pal Jacob Harrell for a hunting trip, he fell in love with the countryside and so on a sunny Fall day in 1838 he stated that, "This should be the seat of future government."
Once he became president of the Republic of Texas shortly thereafter, he began construction on a new Capitol in May 1839. He transferred the the capitol from Houston to Austin (named after Stephen F. Austin who was responsible for settling the town with English colonists in 1821. Austin at that time was merely a modest settlement, but in August of 1839 building lots in the newly platted metropolis were sold.
Since then Austin has developed into a attractive metropolis and is known as The Live Music Capitol of the World®.
With nearly two hundred clubs, concert halls, pubs and coffee shops, there might be 100's of various concerts and music appearances each and every night. The downtown region is the busy area along Sixth St.
Yet another good experience is to attend a taping of Austin City Limits. The show records on an irregular routine throughout the year, based on the musicians ' availability. Austin is additionally famous for its growing movie industry and is known as the third coast. For families, there are a lot of things to do. Pick from the Austin Children's Museum, the Austin Nature and Science to the dancing fountains and riverside meadow at the recently renovated Town Lake Park you won't have a boring weekend!

Merely a couple of minutes drive out of Austin and you're in the Texas Hill Country with its broad countryside and the endless Texas sky stretching out as far as you can see.
