Rabbits are great family pets and they can be trained so that they love to be handled and are tame. They are a good choice for children from the age of around 3 upwards and they can teach a child how to look after an animal that does not have complex needs. When you own a rabbit you need to make sure that you have all of the necessary equipment in order to keep them happy and in excellent condition. One item that you will need above anything else is a rabbit cage and you should always take your time when buying one, but why this is the case?
•You need to buy rabbit cages that will provide your rabbit or rabbits with an environment that allows them to be safe from predators. In most cases you will be keeping your pet outside and unfortunately there are other wild animals that will want to get out your rabbit. With this in mind you need to make sure that your hutch has strong mesh wire over any parts that are exposed and a door that can only be opened by a human. Some latches will open in strong winds or can be moved by animals so bear this in mind.
•You should only choose rabbit cages that will provide total protection for your rabbit in all weathers. So if you are buying a hutch that is made from timber check that it is all weather proof and has an asphalt roof as this will prevent any water from dripping into the hutch and making your rabbit cold and wet. If you don’t have the time to treat the hutch yourself for added weather protection buy one that have already been treated.
•It is also a good idea to think about where your rabbit will be able to play and exercise as this is a very important aspect of its life. If you don't want to buy a rabbit cage that is very large think about looking for rabbit cages that have a removable run that will serve as their play area. Just make sure that the enclosed fence area is tough so that the rabbit is safe inside it. You can also find runs that can be used separately to a rabbit hutch and these are useful as they can be put anywhere in your garden or backyard.
•If you have several rabbits but you want to keep the area space that the rabbit cage stands on to a minimum you should look at a double storey hutch as they are perfect for saving space. The rabbits can move around freely within the hutch and there is plenty of room for them to be totally comfortable while they are inside.
As you can see it can be harder than you think when you want to buy a hutch is suitable for your rabbit. So take your time when shopping and get something that is ideal for you and your pet.
