When you think of Mexican food, you might think of burritos and tacos, but there is plenty more to Mexican cuisine than that. What about dessert and all the sweet dishes on offer? There are plenty of sweet delights to choose from if you want to eat authentic Mexican food. You can find sweet candies, drinks, and, of course, Mexican cake. Mexican Chocolate Pound Cake, with its cinnamon and Mexican chocolate additions, and Mexican Kajeta Chocolate Cake are two examples of mouthwatering Mexican fare.
If you want something lighter than Mexican chocolate cake, you could try Tres Leches Cake. In English, this means "cake of three milks." This Mexican cake is a butter-based cake, soaked with condensed milk, whole milk, and evaporated milk. The cake contains quite a few air bubbles because the milk does not contain butter.
The top of this cake might feature fresh fruit, such as raspberries or peach slices, to add to the taste and is common throughout Latin America. The origin is thought to be between Mexico and Nicaragua but is not known for sure. Tres Leches cakes are popular at celebrations and parties, or even at weddings as well as the Mexican wedding cake.
It is no secret that Mexicans love spices. Jalapeos and chilies are sometimes added to Mexican cakes containing chocolate. Rather than tasting strange like you might imagine, it gives the cake an interesting kick. The Mayas combined cocoa and chili for hundreds of years. Chocolate Jalapeo Cake, for example, has a spicy kick to it, because of the finely chopped jalapeos added to the recipe.
Another well-known Mexican cake is called Rosca. This cake makes an appearance between December and February. It is circular without a center, to represent the three kings' crown, and delicately flavored with citrus zest. Rosca has almonds in it too.
The cake is usually topped with colorful fruits and inside is a miniature baby Jesus doll. Whoever gets the doll in their slice of cake has to provide the Rosca for the next celebration. You can buy this cake from local bakeries or make your own.
If you do not want Mexican milk cake and it is not the occasion for Mexican wedding cakes, what about Mexican crepes or one of the other wonderful treats Mexican cuisine has to offer? These are often topped with Cajeta, a kind of caramel sauce, and toasted pecans. Sometimes other toppings are used on Mexican crepes as well, such as chocolate sauce, cinnamon, raspberries, or cream.
If you are having a party, try your hand at making a cake. You might want to make a Mexican cake with tropical fruits or a rich cake with cinnamon and other tasty spices. Whichever type of cakes you like, there will be a Mexican equivalent. Perhaps you would like to get some Mexican cocoa and use it in your Mexican cake recipe to give a truly authentic flavor. It is sure to disappear quickly once your guests find out how mouthwateringly delicious it is!
