Alcohol addiction is becoming very common and even teenagers have started becoming alcohol addicts. There are different types of alcoholism treatments available today but still deciding about as to which one is the best is not that easy. The type of treatment that an addict will need to go through depends on the level of addiction.
The first step in treating alcohol addiction is to go through pre-treatment care. In this, the associates plus relatives of the addict are essential to offer their inputs regarding the alcohol addict. Addicts who have similar symptoms are made to talk about their individual methods of recovery with each other.
Drug therapy is another way of treating alcoholism. The addict is given a drug that does not end the longing for alcohol; however when an addict takes alcohol he/she becomes so sick that he/she automatically abstains from alcohol. There are several medications that decrease the yearning for drink. The type of drug therapy is determined by the psychoanalyst after he/she has determined which drug cure is most suitable for the respective patient.
Cognitive behavioural therapy is a planned system of treating alcoholism. In this, an addict is also given training and is made to change their advance towards drinking. Drugs may be used to help the patient to relax and to keep their mind engaged. They are assigned responsibilities which they have to full, and also they have to stay and complete the therapy course.
Therapeutic community treatment is another way of ensuring that once a person has given up their addiction, they will stay away from the bottle. In this, the doctors meet their patients often and help addicts to give up on drinking; they are given tasks to make them feel useful and a part of society. Making a transition from an outcast to an important member of society is what is done in therapeutic community treatment.
There are supplementary treatment programs also available, and also there are special alcohol treatment methods for adolescents. All these work to try and get a person to stop drinking and not go into a relapse. Alcohol addiction has to be treated like a disease, and a lot of effort is required to make a person to give up on the habit of drinking.
