Wah Hong Industrial to start Cd-free QDEF production in 4Q16

By: Summer100

Optical film maker Wah Hong Industrial, through technological cooperation with UK-based heavy metal-free nanomaterial maker Nanoco Technologies, will begin production of cadmium (Cd)-free quantum dot enhancement film (QDEF) in the fourth quarter of 2016, according to the company.

Wah Hong will use Nanoco-produced Cd-free quantum dot material and its precision film processing technology to produce Cd-free QDEF, the company said. Cd-free QDEF can be used in TFT-LCD TV panels to increase color saturation and wide color gamut, Wah Hong noted.

As Samsung Electronics took the initiative to launch super Ultra HD LCD TVs based on quantum dot technology, China and Taiwan-based vendors have followed suit by adopting quantum dot technology for Ultra HD LCD TVs and consequently demand for Cd-free QDEF is growing, Wah Hong indicated. Wah Hong's Cd-free QDEF has undergone certification by Taiwan-, China- and Japan-based potential clients.

Wah Hong will become the second Taiwan-based optical film maker to start production of Cd-free QDEF, following Efun Technology which is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2016. Efun has set up monthl production capacity 100,000 square meters of Cd-free QDEF.
