Communication is one of the most important factors in life, people love to communicate with each other and now thanks to the rapid advancements in technology communication is becoming easier and easier. Today people can speak to anyone, anywhere in the world, in real time with the connection taking literally seconds. There are many different means of communication from regular telephone to e-mail, instant messaging to texting and now VoIP. VoIP or voice over Internet protocol is a way to speak to other people via the telephone using the Internet rather than a regular analog landline.
For anyone who is not familiar with VoIP and VoIP technology here are some facts about this revolutionary form of communication.
∑ VoIP calls can be made to anywhere in the world using an Internet connection, the recipient of the call must also have an Internet connection to receive the call.
∑ There are different ways to connect to a VoIP service. You can use an Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) which can be placed on so a regular phone and plugged into the Internet connection. Or you can use a VoIP phone which connect straight into the Internet connection, or you can use a soft phone (also know as a digital phone or Internet phone) and these are software which is installed straight onto your PC and through which VoIP calls can be made.
∑ Businesses can benefit from using VoIP especially if they have a large number of staff working on the telephones or if many long distance phone calls are made from the business. Calling anywhere in the world using VoIP is not only much cheaper than using a traditional telephone provider it can also be much clearer thanks to the digital signal which transmits the audio stream.
∑ Home telephone users can also stand to make substantial savings on their monthly phone bill when they switch over to VoIP. This is particularly beneficial for anyone who regularly makes calls to friends and family overseas, as these can be highly expensive for anyone using a traditional telephone provider.
∑ Anyone who chooses to make PC to PC telephone calls using voice over Internet protocol will not have to pay anything for the cost of their calls. Many people choose to use this type of calling as it means they drastically reduce their phone bills and they can speak to anyone in any location (with an Internet connection) for as long as they want, for free.
∑ VoIP providers also have different tariffs which users can sign up to, and these can be tailored to meet the exact needs of the user. For instance if a user makes many calls to a geographical certain area they can assign their VoIP dialling code to that same geographical area. This results in phone calls which are much cheaper as they are classed as being from a local dialling code.
As shown there are many reasons why using VoIP is the preferred method of communication for millions of people all over the world.
