A Virtual PBX, more familiarly known as Hosted PBX, is a private branch exchange phone system that offered as a hosted service to the subscriber by a telecommunications service provider. These solutions aid business houses to avoid heavy investments in expensive business phone systems.

A virtual PBX may be defined as an advanced telephone system that is cost-effective, simple to manage and incorporates many sophisticated features. Virtual PBX works with existing phones and existing lines but uses an internet connection for making/receiving calls.
