First of all, there are generally 3 types of juicers...the Masticating Juicer, the Centrifugal Juicer and the Twin Gear Juicer (a.k.a. the Triturating Juicer). All three are great juicers, however, there are some big differences between them.
The Masticating Juicer is the best choice for those juicing greens and most vegetables. It is a great option for those that want a high quality juice that has a longer "shelf life." Because it is a single gear juicer, juice is produced at a slower rate--which results in a high quality juice. This type of juicer will get you the most for your money because it preserves more of the vitamins, trace minerals, fiber and enzymes, from the fruits and vegetables, that your body needs to perform at its best! Masticating Juicers can also make baby food, sauces, fruit sorbets, nut butters, banana ice creams and more!! The pulp produced from this machine is usually very dry.
The Centrifugal Juicer is great for those concerned with time and cost! This type of juicer can juice almost anything, except for bananas and avocados. Most juicers on the market today would be classified as Centrifugal Juicers. Because this juicer generates more heat during the juicing process, it causes the juice to become more oxidized, therefore, the juice needs to be consumed right away, or very soon after making it. The pulp produced from this juicer is usually moist.
The Twin Gear Juicer (a.k.a. the Triturating Juicer) is a great juicer if you are wanting to store the juice after making it. This juicer processes fruits and vegetables in two steps. The first step crushes the fruits and vegetables and the second step presses the fruits and vegetables--allowing for more fiber, vitamins, trace minerals and enzymes in the juice to be preserved. This juicer, although very slow, will produce a high quality juice. If you have the time to spend juicing, this might be your best option. This is also the best type of juicer if you are juicing due to certain health issues.
