The bacteria appears to not develop any resistance to benzoyl peroxide, however.
Exfoliating the skin has been found to help minimize acne. To exfoliate, use a soft cloth or a liquid scrub. There are exfoliating products that contain ingredients like glycolic acid and salicylic acid that work to peel the the skin's top layer, preventing dead skin from building up, mixing with the oil produced by the skin and then clogging up the pores.
Salicyclic acid which is known to assist in acne treatment can be found in a number of over-the-counter remedies. This works by firstly softening the skin and then removing the dead skin cells.Facial washes are another product which can be used and these normally contain salicyclic acid. You can also try using products which contain sulfur as their is some evidence that people have this helps in the treatment of acne.
In addition to the acne medications and products there is an abundance of natural remedies. One of these which is gaining popularity is tea tree oil. This has been found to kill acne causing bacteria and also helps to reduce the inflammation and redness which is normally present in the affected areas. It is certainly as effective as benzoyl peroxide and does not cause any skin irritation. You will find that most health food stores have tea tree oil in stock.
If it has been established that if your acne is the result of a hormonal imbalance acupuncture can assist in restoring the balance. Broadly speaking when you are able to restore the balance then you will consequently find this has resulted in acne free skin.

Unfortunately some people find the cost prohibitive which is generally in the vicinity of $150 for each session. It must be said that this is not 100% effective but some good results have been reported. Blue light does not harm the skin so that is a definite advantage with respect to this treatment.
