Bora Bora has the reputation of being the most beautiful island in the world. Bora Bora is a picturesque island that is surrounded by a lagoon and barrier reef in the middle an extinct volcano exists. It is a truly remarkable scene and is a very popular destination as well. It is definitely worth the passport application process for a new United States passport to glimpse this island.

Passport Needs

Passports are very important documents when it comes to international travel. Without them an individual is unable to visit a foreign country, and may even have difficulty re-entering the United States. Passports used to be difficult to obtain, now, though with the internet and technology a pasport application is easy to download and submit as long as all required documentation accompanies it.

Bora Bora

Bora Bora is located in the French Polynesian Islands. Bora Bora is part of the Leeward Island group. It is truly a picturesque destination and features two extinct volcano peaks along with a lagoon. It is a very popular vacation destination.

Early History

Bora Bora played an important role in World War II, as it served as a base in Operation Bobcat, the American base eventually closed in 1946, but many Americans stayed behind. It is no estimated that the population of those who permanently reside in Bora Bora is a little fewer than 9,000 It is believed that the island was first settled in the 4th century by Polynesian settlers. In the early 1700's Jakob Roggeveen sighted the island and then later in 1770, James Cook landed there. In 1820 missionaries arrived and established a church. Bora Bora was an independent Kingdom until 1888, when the French took over the island as a colony.

Things To Do

There are a ton of activities when it comes to visiting Bora Bora. Site seeing including the ancient Volcano is a favorite. There is also snorkeling and scuba diving that are very popular in the Lagoon as well as many other water sports. After enjoying site seeing and snorkeling take time to relax in your resort. Many resorts offer spa and wellness treatments that are sure to have you relaxing in no time.
