There is Much More to Reno then Gambling

By: Katura Hyndman

Reno sits in the Nevada desert. It is a small city and is not quite to the stature of its close neighbor, Las Vegas. However, Reno still has ample opportunities for gambling like Las Vegas. In addition, Reno offers a an extensive variety of entertainment and attractions that have nothing to do with gambling. Set your sights on Reno for not only its gambling, but its exciting entertainment as well.

The major focal point in Reno is Lake Tahoe. This desert lake has over 70 miles of shoreline to enjoy. You can camp, hike, and trudge around the countryside for fun. Lake Tahoe has a bevy of fun outdoor activities and is a great place to spend your vacation when you aren't too lucky in gambling at the casinos in Reno.

Nearby Reno is Virginia City. Virginia City is the place of where Mark Twain wrote "Territorial Enterprise". It is a greatly visited area by Reno. There are a bevy of museums to take in, mines to discover, and the temperature is much more suitable because it is cooler.

Looking for fun, wet, wild activities? Head to Wild Waters in Sparks. It is easily accessed from Interstate 80. Wild Waters offers activities that the entire family will enjoy. You can play miniature golf or race go-karts. Delicious food is available at Wild Waters.

Want to visit a Reno area attraction that is off the beaten path? Spend some time in Whitewater Park on the Truckee. It was built for kayakers by the city of Reno. It runs through the downtown area, so you can easily get started kayaking. You can also take a relaxing walk along the water.

Located very close to Reno is a place known as Pyramid Lake (for a desert location, there are an awful lot of lakes and waterways, aren't there?!?!). Pyramid Lake is a great place where people can rent a boat, take a peaceful picnic on the beach, or engage in any number of fun outdoor activities.

You can also add to your artistic experience by visiting the great number of art studios and galleries. Stop by the galleries on 1st street, South Virignia Street, and California Avenue. They are an exciting adventure for any art admirer. They offer impeccable Southwestern art plus art from all over the glob. You can soak in the local culture here.

Now if none of these other options have interested you, then you always have the casinos. Also, just as with Vegas, Reno is a popular spot for people to tie the knot and there are a number of chapels and places offering their services to couples. Whatever you decide to do when visiting Reno, you can be certain that you will not get bored!
