Oil is a type of liquid fat that is derived from animals, plants or other synthetic fats; it is mostly used for cooking and frying purposes. There are different kinds of oils viz, olive, palm, corn oil, sunflower oil, and other vegetable oils. All of these oils contain saturated, monosaturated, and polysaturated fats. A single kind of oil is not used for all kinds of cooking purposes that is the reason each oil has its own significance. Saturated fats increase the risk of heart diseases as they raise the level of Low Density Level Cholesterol in the body, unsaturated fats are considered the best as they increase the level of HDL in the body.
High Density Level of cholesterol is good for the body as they improve cholesterol levels in the body that prevent the risk of cardiovascular diseases in the body. These kinds of oils are generally liquid at room temperature and they are classified into two types like monosaturated and polysaturated fats, monosaturated fats are the healthiest sources of fat and should be used most of the times, oils in this category are olive oil, canola, etc. Polysaturated fats are divided into omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, omega- 3 fatty acids decrease the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Last but not the least, Tran’s fats increase the levels of bad cholesterol LDL in the body, these fats are found naturally in some sources but are created when liquid is converted into solid by the process of hydrogenation.
There are two types of oils viz, Refined and Unrefined Oils- Unrefined oils are not filtered completely to remove macro particles, and this makes the flavour of the oil more evident, this oil is used for salad dressings and sautéing. Refined oils are filtered thoroughly, this removes the nutritional value of the oil making them more prone to longer storage and making them the best choice for cooking and frying. Let us look at two kinds of oils, sunflower oil and corn oil.
Corn oil is quite healthy as it has low values of saturated and mono unsaturated fats, and it is used for frying and baking purposes. This cooking ingredient is quite think in its consistency and extracted from the germ of corn, it is used in a variety of salad dressings and baked products as well, this oil is inexpensive as is widely used by people, it has certain merits and demerits as well as it has more of omega-6 fatty acids rather than omega-3 fatty acids, but it has more of vitamin that can be helpful to decrease inflammation in the body.
Sunflower cooking oil on the other is quite healthy as it contains low levels of saturated fats and high levels of vitamin E and it is mostly used for cooking , frying and dressings as well. This oil is extracted from sunflower seeds, this makes it light and a high nutrient of essential fatty acids, this oil is considered good for the heart as it increases the level of HDL cholesterol in the body and is also beneficial for skin and hair.
