The Benefits Of A Jib Crane

By: Samantha Dale

When you are working in a warehouse or a similar industrial setting, you will need to be able to move large objects quickly and easily. What these are, exactly, varies from one workplace to the next. The common thread, however, is that these types of operations need to be carried out. Many times, the things that need to be moved or lifted are much too heavy for people to work with on their own. Doing so can even be dangerous and can cause injuries. What is needed is some way to move these things without putting people in a dangerous situation, and the best solution to this problem is to buy a jib crane.

Jib cranes have long appendages that stretch out over the floor of the workplace. In the crane there is a cable that can be attached to whatever it is that needs to be lifted. The crane can then lift this item up and set it down again in a new location. How this is done varies a bit from one model to the next, but a jib crane hoist typically winches the item up by wrapping the cable around a large spool. This is the best system that can be used in a warehouse. Below are the main reasons that having a jib on a crane is so helpful.

1. Further Reach
Since the jib reaches away from the crane itself, this gives it much greater reach than a typical hoist. A normal hoist is just positioned in one place. It can lift things straight up and then set them down at a higher point, but it cannot move them to an entirely new location. It cannot reach things that have not already been rolled into position. A jib fixes both of these problems at once.

2. Great Strength
Because of the way that these are designed, they have a great deal of strength. The different models can lift different loads, of course, but they are all very strong. The jib itself has been engineered to hold the load on its own since it will have to carry most of the weight. The rest of the crane is equally strong, however, since it has to support the jib. This gives you the ability to accomplish tasks that would be impossible without this type of a machine.

3. Loading And Unloading Abilities
Many of these cranes can swivel in a circle on the central post. This makes them ideal for loading and unloading flatbed trucks. You just need to drive the truck up next to the crane. The crane can then take everything from the truck, pivot around, and set it on the ground. It is good for much more than just lifting. You can actually use it to save time and work by putting your materials into position.

4. Mobility
Some of these cranes can be mounted on the backs of trucks, giving you excellent mobility. If you do not know where you need to use the crane, or if you need to use it in a number of different places, this is the only way to make sure that you always have the crane where you need it.
