Tuscan Treasures Tour - June 1-13, 2012
Historic Cortona, Florence, Siena and Much

DAY 1/1June:
Depart New York City for overnight transatlantic flight to Roma. Flights from other US & European departure cities by special arrangement.

DAY 2/2June:
Arrive Roma airport in morning; transfer to LaMucchia Villa Suites in Cortona, Tuscany ( via tourist motor coach. Have your first taste of a bold Tuscan red with a light lunch at LaMucchia. Welcome reception & dinner included at a typical, local Tuscan restaurant; transportation provided. MEALS included: All breakfast meals at La Mucchia Villa Suites; many lunches; most dinners.

DAY 3/3June:
Today we learn Italian…a day of basic Italian language instruction with Silvia, our private Italian tutor. Part I: 10am - noon. Light lunch served poolside at La Mucchia. Language instruction Part II: 3-5pm. 6 PM- transport to Cortona for dinner on your own. 8:30PM - meet in Cortona Town Square for opening of "Giostra dell Archidado" (annual re-enactment of 13th century medieval crossbow & joust festival; costume parade & flag flyers). 11pm - transportation back to your Villa

DAY 4/4June
Guided visit to Cortona including Santa Margherita Church, Fortress of the Medici and the Harem of the Capuchins (Saint Francis' praying cell) and Cortona (Citta del Arte); see Frances Mayes' (author of Under the Tuscan Sun) house, "Brama Sole." Return to the center of Cortona-free time for lunch on own, shopping, café, people-watching. Group meets at 7 PM at "Bar500" (main street of Cortona) for dinner; included. Attend the "Medieval Market" before returning to your villa at 10:30pm.

DAY 5/5June:
Firenze…the Renaissance City. After an early breakfast, you are off to a full-day in Florence! Leave by train from nearby Terontola Station, for 1-hour journey to Florence's Stazione Santa Maria Novella. Guided walking tour of town center including visits to Uffizi Museum and the Academia (Statue of David). Lunch on own in Florence. Return by train for group dinner of typical Tuscan fare at LaMucchia. Transportation to/from train station provided.

DAY 6/6June:
Heading to Casiglion del lago (Umbria) to visit this small and lovely lake town. We leave from Passignano taking the ferry boat to the island in the middle of Lake Trasimeno. Return to La Mucchia for lunch and off again to Monte Olivetto Magiore Abbey, a 14th century monastery of the Franciscan priests to admire 32 frescos of the most important Tuscan painters of that century, to tour their winery (and taste the wines, of course), and to visit the ancient Franciscan pharmacy. Group dinner in Cortona, included. The day comes to an exciting close at 11pm after you attend the Medieval Festival Wedding of Francesco Casali , Lord of Cortona and Antonia Salimbeni, noble of Siena, featuring period music and dances. Transportation back to your Villa, provided.

DAY 7/7 June:
COOKING CLASS with Ada (Frances Mayes' chef who has cooked for Robert Redford, Sting, Sophia Loren). Your cooking class at La Mucchia starts at 9am with a jaunt to the local farmers' market for fresh, seasonal ingredients. You will learn how to make fresh pastas, a variety of sauces, and other Tuscan specialties. 2:00 pm - lunch at La-Mucchia; main meal of day prepared & served by the group. 3.30 pm - transportation to Cortona to experience Giostra dell Archidado Festival's crossbow shooters, soldiers & dancers 7:30 pm - return to La Mucchia Villa Suites for typical Tuscan "bruschette" and wine.

DAY 8/8 June:
ART Instruction. Part I-morning session: History of Tuscan Art (Medieval to today) with local artist/instructor: Part IIafternoon session: Design Class with instructor from Georgia University of Cortona. Materials & lunch provided at extra charge of 20Euros. Dinner on own. Transportation to/from Cortona, provided.
OR FREE DAY to explore on your own. Stroll through the quaint streets of Cortona or return to Firenze to "people watch" and visit boutique & artisan shops, hike the countryside near our villa, or just relax at the pool. Transportation available to/from Cortona and local train station. Lunch and dinner on own.

DAY 9/9 June:
Head to Assisi, one of the most visited Umbrian towns, to visit the chapel of Saint Francis and to explore the pilgrim town. Lunch on your own in Assisi. Afternoon visit to Frantoio Landi a
Mill "delicious" Cortona boutique vineyard & olive . Return to La Mucchia, Villa Suites in late afternoon. Group dinner included at a typical, local Tuscan restaurant; transportation provided.

DAY 10/10June:
SIENA, one of the most beautiful towns of Tuscany. Transportation provided by private motor coach for the short journey to Siena. Full-day guided walking tour of Siena including the Siena Synagogue. Lunch on own in Siena. Return to your Villa late afternoon. 7:30 Group dinner included at a typical, local Tuscan restaurant: transportation provided.

DAY 11/11June:
After breakfast we leave for Montepulciano and Pienza (UNESCO World Heritage Sites) traveling via private motor coach through the beautiful Tuscany Wine Road. Group lunch included. On our return to Cortona, we stop at one of the best wineries of Tuscany, "Avignonesi" for a vineyard tour, wine tasting and finger food. Group dinner included at La Mucchia Villa Suites.

DAY 12/12June:
Afternoon excursion to Cortona with lunch in Cortona on your own. 2pm - visit MAEC (Museo dell Accademia Etrusca e della Citta di Cortona), museum of archeological treasures dating from 1000BC ; includes Roman and Medieval artifacts. with our La Mucchia hosts, Uri & Zeev.
Group dinner in Cortona, included.Late night: Farewell wine & music poolside at your Villa

DAY 13/*13June:
DEPART for US. Arrivederci LaMucchia Villa Suites for morning transfer to airport; transatlantic flight back to USA.
