Coating the coats, big brands and ready-to-wear fashion house labels invoke a retro homage with the cool stylings of Parkas and Cagoules heavily back on the scene. Whether braving the outdoors for a raft of summer activities or jumping up and down to your favourite bands at the variety of festivals that dominate the summer months, these styles will help you navigate the offerings of our unpredictable skies.

The Parka has reclaimed its cool status as retro styles rain back down harder than a British summertime. Its trademark characteristics are perfect to suit the current climate and have sparked a wave of nostalgia and gained a new army of fans, with such features as its dark military hues, lightweight waterproof shell and wealth of handy pockets, alongside its warm lining and contrasting pattern on sweeping hood that is distinctly and decoratively lined with the other returning trend of fur fashion. Waltzing from the runway straight into the high street; fashionistas are revelling in the return of this classic jacket as fashion houses, boutique brands and renowned labels have all added their own twist to bring this 80ís wardrobe staple into the 21st century. Its ability to be manipulated to fit into different genres whilst holding true to its origins is why this fashion phoenix continually rears its head. Additionally, with the current love of fur being displayed so openly and perennially throughout the year, the potential design scope has been widened to include a broad diversity of the inherently warm and visually plush rabbit or lamb furs and also in fun synthetic furs.

Cagoules have left their 70ís scars behind them to become a stylishly practical necessity for any handbag or man bag in both men and womenswear this season. Their lightweight frame makes them ideal for carrying in readiness for a downpour and their flexibility ensures comfort and no restriction in movement whilst taking part in outdoor events and activities that suddenly find themselves under the weather. In the tradition of revival, they too, have had a makeover from top names in the fashion industry, getting very creative with colours or patternings and even loving homageís to the toggles, to make sure you stand out from the crowd.

Headlining the headwear this season, the unisex Peruvian bobble hat with its use of Aztec and fair isle patterning, plus long tassled ear flaps has had to extend its winter duties as revellers and walkers find comfort in the fur linings and all over warmth in a less than scorching summer, alongside oversized statement earmuffs in knitted patterns and rabbit furs for added warmth and comfort. However, the optimistic straw hat is working overtime to protect from the occasional sun and the frequent showers in the unisex fedora styles, trilbies for men and wide-brimmed sunhat designs in womenswear, with all making their own unique statements by sporting lively patterns and colours on the material, fur or feathered band in the middle.
