Surrogacy India - Exploring the New Trend

By: James K. Johnson

India is a hot destination for surrogacy because not only does it have a lot of successful patients and good doctors there are a lot of women who are ready to be surrogates. The cost is the most beautiful part. Where the process takes about $60,000 in America it is done is as much as $3000 in India. This makes a savings of 57000 dollars. Who won’t take this offer up? Who won’t want to have a child in their arms after trying for about a couple of years? The cost of surrogacy involves doctors’ charges, surrogate work up, antenatal care, delivery charges, surrogate compensation and drugs and consumables. There is also the cost of IVF and other costs involved that make it such a costly process.

The reason why people opt for surrogacy in India is that there are good doctors who speak in English and help solve all doubts pertaining to the issue. The cost is also an issue since the cost in India is way less than the cost anywhere else in the world. There are insurance facilities in the US but hardly has anyone heard of surrogacy insurance. Hence all the cost will have to be taken care of by the couple intending to opt for surrogacy. There is also a desire to help other couples who are desperate to have a baby of their own. To make the couple enter the joys of parenthood is also a practice that the Indians follow traditionally. There are customs that speak of surrogacy for others in many communities.

There are services in India for all types of surrogacy. There are egg and sperm donations and finding a surrogate mother. There is also extensive search and extensive screening and timing with respect to finding a donor egg and sperm. India has a total of more than 14 years of experience in surrogacy and health care.

The industry is estimated to be valued at $449 million, and the amount of cases of surrogacy is said to have doubled in the last three years based on newspaper information. But the real numbers remain vague, partly because the practice is broken up among small towns, where the attraction of money is higher than in wealthier cities. The degree of the practice in the US is likewise unclear. A 1992 estimate calculated that as many as 4,000 babies have been born to surrogate mothers in the US.
