Natural lotion and a good detox program help eliminate drying chemicals without adding more.
Did you know that the average woman absorbs five pounds of toxic synthetic chemicals through their skin every year? These chemicals, whether in or on the body, are a major source of dry skin. To eliminate them, you need two things: natural lotion and a good detoxification program - the perfect dry skin care combo.
There are many ways to detox. Exercise and saunas are always good. They both stimulate circulation and distribute nutrients and moisture to the cells. Exercise also helps tone the muscles and get rid of excess fat; since the body stores these drying chemicals in fat, eliminating excess fat is a dry skin care basic.
Detox teas are also popular, as are many custom-designed detox programs you get from your health practitioner.
But one of the easiest ways to detox is through diet. Here’s what you do:
? Stop eating food with chemicals in it. No pesticides, preservatives, and so on. Just fresh, organic fruits and vegetables. Add chicken, grown without antibiotics or added hormones, or wild-caught fish from waters that are low in mercury and other toxins. A little red meat is good as well, as long as it is also antibiotic and hormone-free.
? Load up on chives, garlic, leeks, onions, scallions and shallots. They help get rid of toxins in the body.
? Stop eating sugar. If you can’t stop completely, as least cut down, or make one day a week your designated sugar day. This includes sugar substitutes; they are not food – they’re chemicals. And, as chemicals go, they’re among the most toxic. There’s definitely no room for sugar or sugar substitutes in a good dry skin care program.
? Stay away from sodas. They contain too many chemicals, and too much sugar or sugar substitute.
? Limit fruit juices. They’re also very high in sugar. Instead, try herbal teas – also great on ice.
? Stay hydrated. Drink about six to eight glasses of water every day. Filtered, or from a natural spring in an area with clean air and low toxicity. Hydration is also important for flushing out chemicals.
Another important aspect of dry skin care is preventing moisture loss. For that you need a good, natural lotion that locks in moisture without clogging the pores.
If you have any medical conditions at all, make sure you consult with your doctor before doing a detox. Getting rid of toxins can be hard on the body; you need to make sure that whatever detox program you’re doing is gentle enough for your condition.
Doing a detox, while using a natural lotion that helps prevent moisture loss and the absorption of even more environmental chemicals, is not just great dry skin care – it’s also good for your health. Give it a try!
