By: Alex Bradbury

The Sharp LC-37G4U LCD TV features certain advantages over other LCD TV's in its class to help it stay ahead in the tough LCD TV market. It offers excellent viewing performance to its users and scores well in all areas.

The Sharp LC-37G4U LCD TV is a 37-inch, 1366 by 768 WXGA flat panel display that features Sharps new Quick Shoot video circuit. This feature allows the LCD TV to achieve faster response times. Rated at the sub lower 16 ms, it is considered as the fastest among current LCD TV's. This feature allows a reduction in motion lag especially in fast moving images.

When it comes to colour, the Sharp LC-37G4U LCD TV comes as a fair challenge for other LCD TV's in its category. The white balance settings on this LCD TV can sometimes lean to the pink side. Although this might look bothersome for some people, the TV has an adequate tint adjustment controls which can compensate for the difference.

The black levels on this LCD TV are quite good, it is better than most other LCD TV's in this size range, which generally suffer more the larger they come. The black level on this LCD TV is considered above average due to the use of Sharp's advanced "super View/Black" TFT panel. There is also the addition of a good quality anti-glare coating in order to enhance the darkness. The coating helps counter too much light emissions striking the display screen which can dull the blacks levels on the screen. Another feature to enhance black levels is by having backlight adjustments that the users themselves can adjust to get deep and rich blacks.

Aside from the black levels and the white balance, viewing angles also are important considerations to bear in mind. In this case, the Sharp LC-37G4U LCD TV dims out considerably when watching at around 60 to 65 degrees from its central viewing axis. Typical LCD screen usually have a viewing angle from around 125 to 130 degrees.

Picture quality from the Sharp LC-37G4U seems above average. There is just minimal ghosting for fast moving images. Viewing at 720p signals also seem quite impressive. The quality of the picture comes out deep and full of detail. The same goes with videos from a 1080i signal. Clarity and sharpness are quite noticeable with little instances of the display suffering from burn-ins when static images are displayed for long periods of time.

Another great thing with the Sharp LC-37G4U LCD TV is its relatively quiet background noise levels. It just doesn't come out with any low level buzzing or humming found on other sets which can be a distraction for some people.

For connections, the Sharp LC-37G4U LCD TV offers quite a number of options. It has 2 component video inputs, DVI input, HDMI interface, 3 composite video inputs, 3 RCA inputs, 1 S-video input as well as an input for PC audio.
