Remove Plantar Warts With Four Simple Home Remedies

By: R Gupta

Plantar warts, like other forms of warts, are caused by the human papillomavirus. However, they are especially bothersome since they appear on the heels or the balls of the feet. They can cause considerable irritation and discomfort when you walk, play sports or even wear socks and shoes. Here are some simple home remedies to get rid of plantar warts, and resume your normal living once again!

Garlic is one of nature's greatest healers. It helps fight viruses, bacteria and fungal infections. For relief from your plantar warts, you can use a simple treatment process with garlic every night, before you go to bed. To begin with, clean the infected area of your foot. Now apply a dab of olive oil to the wart (even castor oil will do). After this, take a thin slice of raw garlic and place it on your wart. To hold it in place through the night, use surgical tape or adhesive bandage. Remove the bandage in the morning, and repeat again at night. You may need to do this for about 2 weeks for the plantar wart to blacken and ultimately die.

Tea Tree Oil

Like garlic, tea tree essential oil also has demonstrable antiviral properties. It has been used as a wart removal home remedy for generations now, and countless people have found it extremely effective to get rid of plantar warts. The simplest way to use tea tree oil is to apply 3 to 4 drops directly to the wart before you go off to sleep. For further effectiveness, you could apply the raw garlic bandage as described above after applying the tea tree essential oil.

Duct Tape Treatment

Duct tape is one of the most effective home cures for plantar warts, and according to certain studies, it has a success rate of more than 80%. To get relief from your wart, cut a piece of tape just slightly bigger than the wart and place it on the infected area. Remove it only after six days, and immediately soak your foot in warm water. After 10-15 minutes, file the area gently with an emery board and leave it exposed overnight. The next day, again cover it with a duct tape for 6 days. You may need to repeat this for a few weeks to get rid of your plantar wart. However, you must not continue this line of treatment for more than two months.

Hot Water

Plantar warts do not respond favorably to heat, so if you soak your foot in hot water for 10-15 minutes everyday, you will be able to get rid of your wart faster. It is best if you do this along with one of the other home remedies for plantar warts mentioned above. Covering your foot with hot sand, if that is a feasible option, is another way to expedite the healing process.

Finally, if you don't see results in about two months, it is best if you stop these treatments and consult a dermatologist. Also, remember that while you have a plantar wart, the rest of your body and other people around you are at risk. So refrain from walking barefoot, do not let anyone else use your footwear, maintain a high level of personal hygiene and clean your bathing area thoroughly after your shower. At the end of the day, there is a very good chance that one of these home remedies for plantar warts will cure your foot completely.
