It was known as a “Julphar” city, habitat of trade and habitat of the famous Arabian sailor “Shehab Ad’deen Ahmad Bin Majid” who was called “The Sea’s Lion”
Ras Al Khaimah emirate is located some 64 kilometers easternmost of the coast of the Arabian Gulf. It has an area of 1684 square kilometers. It shares mountainous borders with sultanate of Oman in the south and north east. A number of islands belong to the emirate in the Arabian Gulf waters; most notably, greater Tunb and lesser Tunb.
The city of Ras Al Khaimah is the capital of the emirate; it is well developed with modern roads, parks, markets and other amenities. The city is practically divided into two parts by a substantial creek in which ships anchor. The two parts of the city are linked by a bridge and another round way. Also the emirate is well connected by a network of modern roads, with the rest of the UAE.
Ras AL Khaimah is famous for its magnificent tourist attractions and facilities that have helped it to build up a substantial lead among the other sister emirates and the neighbouring Gulf countries in tourism. RAK embraces charming endless sandy beaches, evergreen expanses of land, high graceful mountains in addition to its fine weather due to its expanses of attractive greenery.
Visitors of Ras Al Khaimah can enjoy safari tours, mountain climbing, and sightseeing to Al Khor as well as camel racing. Also take pleasure in the sulfate hot springs of Khatt Resort.
Ras Al Khaimah National Museum The present site of the museum was originally a historical fortress dates back to the middle of the eighteenth century used as residence for ruling families. The Museum exhibits a variety of rare relics and fossils of different historical eras. There are human remnants dating back to 3000BC. It is considered as the richest museum in the UAE with the monuments and antiques.
There are many ancient locations in Ras Al-Khaimah representing the different ancient periods, these are Ubaid Period (3800 - 5000) B.C , which is the oldest period in Ras Al-Khaimah is known by till today, Hafit Period (3200 - 3600) B.C and Umm Al-Nar Civilization (2000 - 2600) B.C which is interacted with Majans Period. There is also Wadi Souk Period (1600 - 2000) B.C, Hellenic and Persian Period (632 A.D - 300 B.C). Then the Abbasy Period (750 - 1250) A.D and finally the Islamic Period till today . As you can see Ras Al-Khaimah has gone through many historical periods that left vestiges which are still present , for example, Dhayah Castle , Shiba Palace , Alfalayah in addition to 60 towers in different places.
Ras Al khaimah is known for its rich resources and numerous investment opportunities. Many industries in the emirates have established themselves in the local markets and gained good reputation in the region and worldwide for the quality of their products. The strategic location of Ras Al Khaimah at the approaches to the Arabian Gulf and Middle East on the cross-roads of the international maritime has helped in attracting investments. Therefore the need arises for the setting up of new major industries or complementary to existing industries.
