Picking the Right Shelf Liner for Decor and Utility

By: Sunil Punjabi

When you are picking a shelf liner you have to make sure you pick something that adds to the décor and also provides long lasting utility. It is important that shelf liners provide a firm grip at the top and bottom when you place them either on tables or shelves. In other words, the liners shouldn't be slipping away on smoother surfaces. Special slip resistant liners are used to hold the items firmly in place as well. It is a good idea to pick thick liners which are used inside pantries especially when the surface of the table or desk has some cracks or indentations and could cause glassware or dishware to fall off. For the fragile items, liners that provide some cushioning could prove to be very useful.

You can go for a peel and stick shelf liner as well which comes with an adhesive. The vinyl laminate used can be of a high quality, sticking to the surface. There are liners that come in specific lengths, making it easier for you to estimate what dimensions of the liner you really need for your table tops and other surfaces. You can get these liners in sizes such as 12 X 30 inches, 20 X 15 inches and 18 X 24 inches. There are both adhesive and non-adhesive liners depending upon the kind of table top or surface where you would be using the liner.

You can find a good quality shelf liner that comes with an adhesive backing, which allows you to use the liners on horizontal as well as vertical surfaces, giving you more flexibility when it comes to using them. These liners can be used with drawers, kitchen cabinets and shelves to protect appliances, articles or even decorative glassware and display items. The liners also protect the table surface from scratches that could be caused by sharp objects or edges. There are liners which come with rolls and cutting lines that allow you to easily cut the liners out after you have unfurled the part that you need. The adhesive liners allow you to peel the liner out and stick them on the surface. Extra thick liners and liners with slip resistant, extra grip tops are used when the surfaces and the display items are expensive and need to be preserved carefully.

You can also go for a water resistant shelf liner as well especially when you want to protect the table top from spilled liquids and beverages. These liners are just as good for the linen closets in the bathroom as they are for bedside chests and kitchen cabinets. These liners should be easy to reposition as well just in case they are knocked out or dragged out accidentally. Therefore, the best options are provided by liners which are slip resistant, unless they are lifted and repositioned, with a groovy top to prevent articles on top a good grip to stand on. Uniform patterns are provided on some of the liners as well, which can be washed too to prevent dust from settling in.
