There seems to be a steadily increasing pace in the movement of calling for legislative reforms in legalizing online gambling in the US; however, where there is progress being made by certain states, the Senate is calling for a time out. With the growing numbers of State supporters to legalize internet gambling within their jurisdiction, it is high time that the Senate should take a stand. Just to remind anyone following the developments now: back in December 2011, the Department of Justice gave its own interpretation on the Wire Act which prohibits online gambling in the US and stated that its mentioned prohibition mainly pertains to sports betting. Shedding more insights on a clearer interpretation that online mobile gambling is not illegal in the US, more internet gambling operators are taking this momentum in positioning their business for the possibility of a legislation passing that will legalize online gambling within the US borders.
Relative to the opinion given by the Department of Justice that seemed to stir the gambling industry with excitement of operating online gambling in the US, the Senate warned the DOJ to make a formal consultation with the Congress before making any position about the issue on the legalization of online gambling or android betting in the US. It can be cited that statesmen seem divided with their stand on whether or not to legalize internet gambling in the US. While the Senate has not given any definite stand on the matter from a federal perspective, some states have already taken the initial steps of legalizing internet gambling operations in their jurisdiction.
Online poker and ipad betting operators were able to successfully obtain a license to potentially operate internet poker sites in Nevada (only when a regulatory regime of some sorts passes). A legislative bill is now underway for approval that aims to authorize the operation of Internet gambling by Atlantic City casinos in New Jersey. It was reported that the bill was previously vetoed by Governor Christie but after some sufficient amendment to meet federal requirements there is a high possibility that the bill will be approved. A poker bill is also being considered in California while some states operating state lotteries are considering the online selling of lottery tickets and to operate online casino games as well (Illinois made history by being the first state to do so and then – following that – it was part of the largest jackpot ever seen in the US recently).
The freedom of these states to allow online gambling operation and ipad gambling activities in their jurisdiction may however be reined in owing to the latest Senate proposed legislation that will prohibit some other form of online gambling in many states. Many statesmen however have called for the freedom of each state to make its own decision with an outcry that they are competent in regulating the online gambling industry under their leadership.
