Location and Population

Mount Eliza is a relatively small suburb which is located southeast of Melbourne, Australia. It is currently home to approximately 17,000 residents, and it covers an area of 22kmē.


Mount Eliza received its named from Captain William Houston who visited the area in 1836. It was originally a spot which was enjoyed primarily as a holiday destination, but recent developments in schools and facilities have made it a popular residential area.

Mount Eliza Village

Mount Eliza Village is the main shopping area for the entire suburb. Mount Eliza village is located on the intersection of Canadian Bay Road and Mount Eliza Way. The village features several major banks, Ritchies Stores, IGA, Supa and Woolworths as well as many other local businesses and specialty shops.


Mount Eliza has a number of educational facilities to suit all ages. There are four main primary schools: Kunyung Primary School, Mount Eliza Primary School, Mount Eliza North Primary School and St.Thomas More Catholic Primary School. The three main secondary schools are the Peninsula School, Toorak College, and Mount Eliza Secondary College. The Melbourne Business School is located in the area, and it offers a number of MBA, masters and doctorate programmes.


Mount Eliza is home to numerous sport clubs and organizations. Perhaps the most famous is the Mount Eliza Football Club, which has produced several AFL players. There are also cricket clubs, bowls clubs, tennis clubs and even a yacht club. You can find more information on what sporting clubs are in operation by taking a look in one of the local newspapers or by looking on local notice boards.


There are two major highways which run through Mount Eliza and they are the Nepean Highway and the Moorooduc Highway. The highways allow you to easily access other town and cities in the state. There is also an extensive and reliable public bus system operating in the area. Melbourne bus routes that currently run to the area include the 781, 784, 785, 788 and the 783. Taxis also operate in the area; the most convenient way to hire one is to call a local cab firm to book one in advance.

Bays, Beaches and Creeks

Mount Eliza boasts a number of beaches, creeks and bays. They are the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful outdoors with friends and family. Beaches and bays include Canadian Bay, Daveys Bay, Half Moon Bay, Moondah Bay, Ranelagh Bay and Sunnyside North Bay. Some of the most famous creeks are Ballar Creek, Gunyong Creek, Manyung Creek and Earimil Creek. The Moorooduc Quarry and Flora and Fauna reserve is also located within the suburbs.
