Manufacturing of Pistons and Valves

The manufacturing process of pistons has experienced a drastic change since the introduction of internal combustion motor. He current piston manufacturing has seen various advancements such as full automation with little or no human intervention. However4, this is not the only way of making pistons. For example, the JP Piston is made without the use of automated machines, which means that only a low number can be designed at a time. This also implies that these pistons cannot perform in the same way as the automated ones and are of low quality. Therefore, it should be noted that piston can be made using both modern manufacturing processes and older methodologies.

The TA790 High Flow Valve is designed for applications requiring the moving of large amount of air in short periods of time. It offers both pressure and vacuum relief at an opening point of 0.05 psi with a deviation of 0.25 in either direction. The valve can also be used for effective rapid decompression or explosion decompression. This is aided with a flow rate of up to 140 SCFM which enables the valve to meet the rapid decompression needs of a 50 cubed feet container. High flow valves are also used in airborne transport of large volumes containers which are used to move large amounts of air to keep from exploding or imploding.

Valves are normally coated in order to ensure durability and prevent rusting. The most commonly used method of coating is chrome coating. However, black nitride has proved to be the most efficient way of coating valves. It is a hardening treatment that is also used in chrome coating and has several benefits. The treatment provides a micro hardness that is higher than the stainless steel base material, keeping good ductility below the hard nitride layer. Black nitride ensures hardness of the valve seat surface, lasting longer with lead free fuels, alcohol, and nitro.

Another type o valve is the one piece valve. It has a spherical disc which controls the flow of fluids through it. The sphere has a port which dictates the frequency of flow so that when the port is in line with both ends, flow will occur. However, when the valve is closed, the hole appears perpendicular to the ends of the valve, and flow is stopped. One piece valves are durable and work to achieve effective shutoffs even after a long period of disuse. They are mostly used in industries because they support high amounts of pressure.
